The Kano State Government has approved N514 million for the supply and installation of 100 electricity transformers to boost power supply to communities across the state.

The State Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, disclosed this in Kano on Thursday, at the end of the state executive council meeting.

Garba said that the council approved N1.3 billion for the
maintenance of 31 dilapidated roads in the state capital, to be carried out in eight clusters.

He said that the state ministry of finance had been directed to release 30 per cent of the total sum to the eight contractors for immediate mobilisation to project sites.

According to him, some of the roads to be rehabilitated include Nassarawa Hospital, Sheik Jaafar, Eastern Bye-Pass-Unguwa Uku, Bompai, Abbatoir and Civic Centre Road.

Others include Obasanjo Road, Bello Road, Yantsaki Road-Tudun Murtala, Sharada, Rijiyar Zaki, Rafin Dan Nana, Ashton Road, Manladan Kulkul Road, Emirs Palace, Kofar Fampo and ‘Yan Katako-Zaria Roads.

“The sum of N31.8 million has also been approved for feeding in three boarding primary schools, namely; Shehu Minjibir Boarding Primary School, Musa Saleh Kwankwaso Model Science Primary School and Mariri Boarding Orphanage.

“The state government has banned construction of corner shops on the fences of primary and secondary schools and the government will soon construct fences in all schools.

“The council also approved N5 million as compensation for the family of a man who was killed by an accident caused by personnel of Kano Road Traffic Maintenance Agency (KAROTA) last year,” he said.

Garba said that the council also approved a five-bedroom flat to the family of late Justice Mohammed Yayaha, who died in active service and scholarships to the 14 children of the deceased.

He said that N11.5 million was approved for clearing of drainages in Daneji area of Shehshe Quarters of Kano metropolis.

The commissioner however expressed government’s determination to develop infrastructure in the state as part of the initiative to improve the welfare of the people.
