Kano zonal office of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has donated two sets of computer devices and a projector in support of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) quiz competition organised annually among secondary school students in Kano state.
The annual competition is an initiative of the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) meant to deepen the knowledge and the use of computer among students of secondary schools across the state. NCC, in support of this year’s quiz competition, donated a HP Elite pro laptop computer and an Epson projector as rewards for the prospective fi rst prize winner, while an ‘all in one HP pavilion Desktop’ was to be presented as prize for runner-up. Presenting the gadgets to CITAD’s Executive Director, Mr. Y. Z. Ya’u in Kano on Friday, the Zonal Controller of the NCC, Malam Adamu Amshi identifi ed digital gap between north and south as responsible factor inhibiting development in northern states.
“Th e commission is well aware of the digital gap in Nigeria and particularly in Kano. It is for this reason the commission has worked tirelessly and continuously to bridge the lacuna that has for years set aback development in the state” he stated He maintained that ICT is an integral part of modern society and therefore encouraged the youth and students to embrace the opportunities inherent in the technology to better their lives.
