The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has said it is investigating alleged defilement of a minor by one of its officers currently serving with the Armed Forces Special Forces Battalion Detachment stationed at Dalwa in Borno State.
Daily Trust reported on 25th October 2018 that an air flying lieutenant (name withheld) allegedly defiled a 14-year-old girl in an Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Borno.
Air Force spokesman Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola in a statement on Friday said the matter is already being investigated and any NAF personnel found culpable would be prosecuted in accordance with the relevant statutes.
He said, “we wish to state categorically that the NAF is a highly disciplined and professional force that does not tolerate or condone such acts of indiscipline that violate human rights and dignity.”
He added that, “just like other segments of society, a few of its personnel might occasionally act in a manner that is totally out of tune with the character and nature of the Service. ”
He said, “We wish to assure the general public that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against the officer, if found culpable. ”
He said the public will be kept informed on the outcome of the investigations/trial.
