Bauchi inaugurates committee on Tsangaya, Almajiri schools reforms

Bauchi state government has inaugurated a committee to implement reforms into the Almajiri and Tsangaya Education in the state.

The committee was inaugurates by the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (BASUBEB) following the recent incorporation of Almajiri and Tsangaya education into the Board.

Inaugurating the committee, the Executive Chairman, BASUBEB, Professor Yahaya Ibrahim Yero said the committee was constituted to streamline the activities of Tsangaya and Almajiri schools in line with the provisions of laid down rule of the Board.

He said that, the committee is required as part of its terms of reference to help improve condition of learning and incorporate western education in the Tsangaya and Almajiri schools in the state.

Professor Yero disclosed that BASUBEB on its part will provide the needed learning materials for the students, ensure their welfare and proper sanitation for the pupils, their environment, among others.

Responding on behalf of members of the committee, the committee Chairman, Alhaji Umar Aliyu Misau called for the support of the Board and members of the committee to discharge their assigned responsibilities.

He said that, the committee will work diligently and accomplish the task it was assigned to do as regards to the improvement of age old Almajiri or Tsangaya system of learning.

He said that, despite its existence for centuries, no concrete measures have ever been put in place with sincere effort to reform the system.

Misau therefore urge members of the public as stakeholders, to help the committee bring the needed reforms into the system as obtained in many countries where the old system has undergone changes to go with the changing times.

Members of the committee include, Permanent member two SUBEB, Alhaji Abdulrahman Muhammad, Malam Mustapha Baba Ilelah, Alarmma Abubakar Abdullahi, Aliyu Saidu Gamawa, and Malam Mahmoud Ibrahim Shira while Sani Ahmad is to serve as Secretary of the committee.
