Amnesty International Nigeria has called on security operatives to protect the publisher of Daily Nigerian Mr. Jaafar Jaafar, who is to testify before the Kano state House of Assembly on alleged videos of Kano state governor collecting bribe from an unidentified contractor.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Director Amnesty International Nigeria, Osai Ojigho said it is the responsibility of the police and other security agencies protect Jaafar and ensure that no harm comes his way.

She said: “As the publisher of Daily Nigerian Mr. Jaafar Jaafar is to testify before an investigation panel of Kano state House of Assembly today, we call on security agencies to provide maximum security to protect Jaafar all through the whole process in Kano.”

“Since releasing videos showing governor of Kano state allegedly collecting bribe Jaafar has been receiving threats to his life, which forced him to go into hiding. Jaafar has shown bravery and is only exercising his responsibility as a journalist to hold leaders to account.”

“It is the responsibility of the police and other security agencies protect Jaafar and ensure that no harm comes his way. His resolve to testify before the panel should be complimented with adequate security and protection.”

Daily Trust Online reported that  Jaafar Jaafar, the publisher of Daily Nigerian, an online Nigerian News medium that released video clip portraying Gov Umar Ganduje of Kano state receiving bribe from contractor has  arrived Kano state House of Assembly.

He arrived with the holy Qur’an hanged on his shoulders.

He is accompanied by his lawyers.

Immediately he sat, the sitting commenced.

Daily Trust Online had earlier reported that heavily armed security personnel were positioned inside and outside the Kano State House of Assembly as the seven-man investigative committee set up by the state lawmakers over the alleged bribery video involving the governor of the state, Umar Ganduje is set to commence sitting today (Thursday).
