The Federal Ministry of Health has directed the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to be on the look out for some Chinese drugs containing human remains.
Director- General of the agency, Professor Mojisola Adeyeye in a statement yesterday said the agency received the directive following notification from Nigerian and Korean intelligence agencies about the drugs.
The statement said that the NAFDAC boss immediately alerted the agency’s Ports Inspection Directorate to be on the lookout at ports and borders since the drugs may be brought into the country in small packages.
“The Pharmacovigilance and Post-marketing Directorate has also been alerted to conduct surveillance in our markets. The Registration and Regulatory Affairs Directorate is also on the look out, ” the statement said.
While saying that the agency’ s goal is to safeguard the health of the country, the Director General said that she has also contacted her counterpart in South Korea about the issue.
“We will keep the public updated,” she said in the statement.
