The Labour Party (LP) says it would field candidates for all elective positions in the 2019 general elections, urging Nigerians to disregard statements by the suspended publicity secretary of the party, Mrs. Ebere Ifendu, who alleged that the party would not participate in the elections.

In a statement on Wednesday in Abuja by its Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Yinka Richards, the party called on the public to disregard any information emanating from the suspended members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of LP, saying comments in the media are orchestrated to misinform the public on the activities of the party.

According to Richards, the suspended publicity secretary was not permitted to issue any press statement as she seized to function in that capacity after her suspension was ratified by National Executive Council (NEC), of the party in its last meeting which had all state chairmen and secretaries in attendance.

“Nefarious activities of some members of the NWC informed the decision of the party’s NEC to suspend them from office and the party remains resolute in its decision,” he said.

Speaking on the just-concluded NEC meeting held in Minna, Niger State, Richards said INEC was informed and there was due process which informed the presence of INEC officials at the meeting.

He added that all organs of the party and stakeholders were also at the meeting which ratified the extension of tenure of the NWC members and the suspension of some erring members.

He said, “The decision to extend tenure of the NWC members was in line with the party’s constitution as stated in Article 13 (B) viii and ix.”

He therefore warned the suspended NWC members to desist from further media engagement against the party and urged the public to disregard any derogatory statements by some disgruntled politicians especially among the suspended NWC members.
