The Kwankwasiyya-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano has insisted that its gubernatorial candidate, Engineer Abba Kabir Yusuf is the authentic flag bearer of the party in the state despite claims from another faction of the party.
Speaking to Daily Trust on the phone, Engineer Yusuf’s running mate, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalami Gwarzo said Yusuf emerged winner of a state congress conducted in Kano under the leadership of the State Congress Committee set up by the National Headquarters of the PDP, and observed by INEC.
He explained that some aggrieved members of the party after the congress had rushed to Abuja with 40 members and conducted a purported primaries and produced another candidate.
“But as I speak to you the National Chairman of the Party, Chief Uche Secondus has distanced himself and the party from the purported Kangaroo primaries. I am also aware that a statement has been issued to that effect”.
“The National Chairman has already told the world that the status quo remains, so now I am appealing to my brothers to stop causing disaffection in the party and join hands with us so we can win the state for our great party together,” he said.
He added that Yusuf was the authentic candidate as far as the National Headquarters of PDP is concerned.
“He won with over 2500 votes, and the result was signed by the officers sent by the PDP from the Headquarters and INEC officials and it was taken to Headquarters.”
