Governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Imo state, Uche Onyeagucha, has said that the party is yet to produce any candidate for the 2019 governorship election in the state.
He said the there was no primary election to choose any candidate in the and denied reports that Senator Ifeanyi Araraume has-been elected as the party’s flagbearer.
Onyeagucha, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Macdonald Enwere, also denied reports that he has dumped APGA for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Enwere described as rumour and false information information being peddled in the state that there was a primary election which led to the emergence of Araraume as the APGA governorship candidate in the state.
The statement said, “May we use this opportunity to kindly draw the attention of the general public and to also clearly state once again that there was no governorship primary election in the state let alone someone emerging as the candidate of the party. Anyone who claims that there was a primary election in the state is just being dishonest and mischievous.
“The APGA governorship primary election which supposed to hold in the state on Friday 5th October 2018, could not hold and was rescheduled on the following day being Saturday, 6th October, 2018 which also could not hold. The election was later shifted to Sunday 7th October 2018, and also could not hold. In all these three days which the election suppose to take place, there was no delegate list, no Returning officer and INEC officials. So any who goes about claiming that there was a primary election in the state or claiming to be the governorship candidate of the party in the state is just deceiving himself.”
He carpeted the APGA chairman, Victor Oye and Governor Willy Obiano of Anambra state for not having the capacity to conduct a simple governorship primary.
Onyeagucha, while debunking rumours that he had joined PDP, said that the mere fact that the the PDP flag bearer, Hon Emeka Ihedioha, visited him did not mean that he had left APGA.
He said, “We are aware that the buildup to the rumour is the recent courtesy visit paid on Hon Onyeagucha by the PDP governorship candidate in the state, Hon Emeka Ihedioha.”
In that visit, Hon Onyeagucha and Hon Emeka Ihedioha only interacted like brothers. There was never a time in the meeting or after the meeting Hon Onyeagucha said he has joined or planning to join PDP.
“In order to keep the record straight, we wish to kindly inform all our esteemed supporters and the general public that Hon Uche Onyeagucha is still in APGA and has not joined the PDP.”
