Only 10% of ballot papers for Zamfara APC governorship primary election provided – Yari

Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara state has said only 10% of the total ballot papers needed for the conduct of the governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were made available in the state.

Our reporter had earlier reported how incomplete ballot papers and other election material have hampered the smooth and early commencement of the party’s primary in the state.

There was mass turnout of voters in many wards but incomplete ballot papers and late arrival of the election material has marred the exercise.

“For instance, in Talata Mafara local government area with 30,000 registered members of the party, only 3,000 were made available. Similarly, in Gusau local government, only 6,000 ballot papers were made available whereas the registered members are more than 6,000,” he added.

He said after the hitch and delay in the commencement of the election, the national secretariat in consultation with all the aspirants in the state ordered that people should queue up to be counted and that was what was being done.

Governor Yari then warned those who want to employ thuggery to desist from doing that or face the dire consequence adding that violence would never give victory.

Meanwhile, there are protests in Gusau, the state capital and Bungudu town, the headquarters of Bungudu local government area when dozens of aggrieved voters alleged foul play in the conduct of the exercise.
