A former military personnel and business mogul, Dr. Davidson Akhimien, has emerged the presidential candidate of Grassroot Development Party of Nigeria (GDPN).
Akhimien was elected by delegates at the party’s presidential primary held yesterday in Abuja.
Two other aspirants had stepped down for him to be the sole presidential candidate of the party, paving the way for his approval by delegates through voting to legitimise his candidature.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Akhimien promised to implement the party’s manifesto which, he said, was to tackle poverty if elected president next year.
The national chairman of the party, Ambassador Odion Okpebholo, told newsmen at the event that GDPN was passionate about addressing the challenges of rural urban drift, the economy and insecurity in the country.
