Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya and the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on House of Representatives matters, Alhaji Abdulrahman Sulaiman Kawu Sumaila have signed a peace pact.
The peace pact was aimed at ensuring peaceful conduct of the senatorial primary election of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) slated for tomorrow.
The two politicians held a close door meeting with security chiefs in the state including police commissioner, director of DSS, army commandant and their counterpart in the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Daily Trust recalled that today’s peace pact was the second since the two politicians who are aspiring for Kano South senatorial seat commenced their political campaign.
The peace pact followed a clash between supporters of the two politicians on Sunday where three persons from Senator Gaya’s campaign group were injured.
Speaking shortly after the meeting, Police Commissioner, Rabi’u Yusuf, said Senator Gaya and Sumaila had agreed to talk to their supporters to embrace peace during tomorrow’s APC primary election.
He said, “The politicians have signed pact between them that they will ensure that the election is peaceful. I want to therefore warn their supporters that anybody found with weapons or caught armed during primary will be decisively dealt with.”
On his part, Senator Gaya promised to talk to his supporters to respect law and order during the election, saying “We need peace in Kano and we will do everything possible to achieve it.”
Sumaila also assured that as a law-abiding citizen, he would ensure that his supporters conduct themselves peacefully during the poll.
He said, “There is nothing better than peace. I am appealing to security agents to expand their tentacles and arrest any person that is found with weapon.”
