The Benue State All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election is yet to begin as at 9:00pm on Sunday.
State Publicity Secretary of the party, James Ornguga, said the delay was caused by the chairman of the electoral committee who is yet to arrive Makurdi to commence the process.
Though, the party delegates have been on standby for hours unending at the Precious hotel in Makurdi, venue of the election, Ornguga said the arrival of the chairman from the APC national secretariat with electoral materials would signify the commencement of the exercise.
“We are still waiting for the exercise. If the chairman of the committee arrives and deems it fit for the exercise to commence tonight, so shall it be because the state executive does not have the powers to shift the election,” he said.
Meanwhile, our correspondent gathered that the power brokers of the party are horse trading and deliberately delaying the process to reach for a consensus candidate.
