2,175 delegates from across 23 local government of Sokoto state affirmed Manir Dan’iya as the Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
Dan’iya, the immediate past Commissioner for local government in the state was endorsed by the party’s stakeholders as the consensus candidate of the party in their earlier meeting.
However, the former Governor of the state, Barrister Muntari Shagari was not at the venue of the election.
It was said that Shagari who also declared interest to contest for the ticket was not happy with the consensus arrangement.
Declaring the result on Sunday, the returning officer, Ambassador Bashir Yuguda hinted that 2,490 delegates were screened out of which Dan-iya scored 2,175 lawful votes.
“With this development, Manir Dan’iya emerged as the flag bearer of PDP for the forthcoming Governorship election in Sokoto state unopposed,” he said
