UPDATED: Federal lawmaker, Adedoyin, is dead

A member of the House of Representatives, representing Irepodun/Isin Ekiti/Oke Ero constituency of Kwara state, Hon. Funke Adedoyin, has been reported dead.

It was gathered that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker died while treating a cancer ailment.

A source close to the family said that the deceased had a cancer operation about two years ago, while she had been in and out of the country for medical attention since then.

The source, who said a call was put across to the deceased last week, added that he suspected something was missing when she did not pick or return the call.

When contacted on Friday, one of the sisters of the deceased, Princess Omolola Olobayo who spoke with journalists in Ilorin confirmed the death of her sister, Hon. Adedoyin.

She however said that, “the lawmaker travelled abroad for routine checkup on her health situation but she gave up the ghost this (Friday) morning in an Abuja hospital after returning from treatment abroad.”

Also speaking, a member of the Kwara state executive council of the PDP who sought anonymity confirmed the death of the lawmaker.

He said that, “the state leadership of the PDP is yet to make an official statement over the death of Hon. Funke Adedoyin because the family is yet to make any official statement on her death. We are waiting for the family to break the news of her death.”

Daily Trust learnt that Hon. Adedoyin was diagnosed of cancer which she’s been battling with for some time.

It was learnt that she travelled to USA for routine check up and returned to Nigeria last week Tuesday.

She was said to be hale and hearty when she returned last week with the intention to continue her political campaign for second term.

It was also learnt that she was preparing to travel to Kwara to attend Okeola day today where she had already mobilised her supporters to expect her before her health conditions suddenly went worse to the amazement of all.

She was rushed to a private hospital in Abuja where she later died on Friday afternoon.

Our correspondent learnt that her father has been briefed and he was said to be psychologically down because he was so fond of her, among his children.

He was being consoled by church members, friends, relatives as at the time of filing this report.
