The two cleared gubernatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Katsina, namely Abubakar Samila Isa and Garba Sani Dankani have jointly rejected the adoption of indirect mode of primaries by the state chapter of the APC.
The rejection was based on the ground of series of litigation challenging the legitimacy of the party’s congresses that produced the state executives of the party.
The duo are to slug it out with the incumbent Governor Aminu Masari at the primaries of the party on Sunday.
At a joint press briefing on Friday, the duo said “if this trend is not checked, it will throw the party into chaos and may further factionalize the party and affect its fortunes in the upcoming general elections in 2019.”
According to them, “the so-called executive members of the party at all levels in Katsina state were illegally elected in a phantom congress of the party which is now subjudice before many High Courts and the Federal High Court in Katsina state and therefore ineligible to take decisions on behalf of the party and its members.”
While calling on all those concern to intervene and save the party from manipulation and disunity, the duo insisted that the direct primaries remained the most transparent and credible process of selecting popular and acceptable candidates for the party.
