The Trade Union Congress (TUC) Enugu State chapter has blamed the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Dr. Chris Ngige, for not living up to the promise he made on behalf of the federal government.
Briefing newsmen on Thursday on the level of compliance in Enugu, the chapter chairman, Comrade Chukwuma Igbokwe, said there was no better for the organised labour to embark on strike than currently saying the compliance level across the state was sixty percent.
He said that the gap in communication caused the failure to actualize 100 percent compliance, adding that the deadlocked meeting they had with government ended very late hence their inability to get across to all the workers in the state.
He said they have communicated the directive of the national leaders of the organized labour to the workers, assuring that there would be full compliance from tomorrow (Friday).
Igbokwe, however, expressed dismay that the government at different levels have not even responded to the suggested minimum wage.
Our correspondent who visited some places on Thursday observed that the level of compliance to the nationwide strike was low, as nearly all banks, other corporate bodies and most schools failed to comply with the strike directive.
However, the situation was not similar at the Federal Government College located at Independence Layout, Enugu as the doors of the school were locked.
Some teachers of the school who spoke on condition on anonymity said they didn’t receive any directive to go on strike.
