Stanbic IBTC bank has informed shareholders that it has received assurance from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) that it will not be debited for USD2.632 billion, being the portion of the remittances the bank had made on the basis of the Certificates of Capital Importation.
The Company Secretary, Chidi Okezie, disclosed this in a letter to the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) on Tuesday.
The letter noted that the CBN had previously suggested that the bank should also be prepared to refund the said amount.
Okezie also disclosed that CBN has written to advise the bank that it would examine new submissions and documentations made by the bank and where justified, it would review its earlier decision on the penalty it imposed on the bank.
It will be recalled that the bank had communicated the apex bank that it believed that it had acted properly in an agency capacity.
The CBN also confirmed that it will continue its engagements with the bank just as the bank have assured it will provide additional evidences in relation to the issues.
