The Restore Back PDP Initiative, a campaign unit of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday rejected the inconclusive declaration of the Osun governorship election by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and asked for the restoration of the mandate to the party’s candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke.
The group in a press release jointly signed by its National Coordinator, Ambassador Matthew Ekeh and National Secretary, Matthew Kayode, described the decision of INEC as “dubious” and allegedly aimed at favouring their “paymaster”, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“The body at her National Executive emergency meeting having studied the result of the election critically discovered that Peoples Democratic Party won the election without any blemish despite all pranks played by APC, INEC and Security agencies to rig the election in favor of APC, but God brought all their plans to nothing.
“Several curious actions like killing, maiming, assault and unwarranted beating of PDP members were carried out before, during and after the election by the APC members in Osun State and their hired thugs from other states like Lagos, Ekiti, Ondo and Ogun States to humiliates PDP members in Osun state, yet our members did not retaliate in any form as they are good ambassador of Nigeria not the like of destructive being in the fold of APC.
“Restore Back PDP Initiative is calling the attention of all Nigerians at home and diasporas, International Organizations and all concern bodies worldwide to beam their lights to the proposed areas where the re-run elections is expected to hold on Thursday 26th September 2018 to prevent APC and their thugs from unleashing terror on the good people of Osun State.
The group alleged that it has on good authority that the ruling APC and INEC had held “closed door meeting in Osogbo strategising on how to rig the election.
The group also alleged that there were plans to unleash unrest and all form of violence on the people of the area with the use of some thugs in army and police uniform.
“Restore Back PDP Initiative is with all mandates warning the Leadership of Independent National Electoral Commission not to deter from her official lay-down rules of operation at all elections and to remain connected with the enacted laws that was created for her and guided by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“Sequel to all above, Restore Back PDP Initiative is warning Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to stop delaying with our divinely ordained victory and we are at the same time instructing them to do all the needful to return our one thousand votes stolen and also make a very good room for peace to reign in Osun State”, the statement said.
