Customs officials kill man thought smuggling rice

Officials of Customs Service are said to have shot dead a middle-aged man carrying bags of rice.

An eye witness said the incident which happened along Dutsinma Road, around Federal College of Education left the victim dead on the spot.

He said the deceased driving a J5 Peugeot van tried to evade arrest by making a u turn upon  spotting the officials who immediately opened fire on him.

“People ran for safety upon hearing the gun fire just as the officials upon seeing the victim’s condition ran off in their hilux van,’ he said

Later on policemen came and took away the body of the decease whi is yet to be identified.

Confirming the incidence, the spokesman of Katsina police command DSP Gambo Isah said the police took the body to the hospital where he was confirmed dead just as investigation have begun.
