Firm submits design of 4 proposed Kano earth dams

The Kano State Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (Kano-NEWMAP) a project being funded by the World Bank, Federal and Kano State Government under the state ministry of environment has received and presented the design and supervision report of four earth dam and development of minor irrigation facilities from Zephyrgold International Limited the engineering firm handling the design.  

 

Speaking during the presentation of the report, the State Project Coordinator Alhaji Musa Shua’abu stated that, the four water conservation structures are going to be constructed in Mokoda, Shanono, Takai and Tofa local government areas of Kano state, with a view to bring about water conservation for domestic and agricultural utilization by members of the affected communities.

He added that the engineering firm have presented the detailed engineering designs and integrated watershed management plans, geo-technical and geo-physical investigation results, structural engineering, Bill of Quantities among other requirement for the constructions and remediation work of the four sites.

 

In his address, the chairman State Steering Committee (SSC), who is also the Commissioner Kano State Ministry of Environment Dr. Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda expressed satisfaction with the designs, and urged the State Project Management Unit to follow it up with the National Office of the Project and the World Bank in order to fast track the implementation of the noble project that will bring about better livelihood to the people around the affected areas, through increase agricultural productions, soil and water conservations and general ecological improvements.
