Graduating cadets of 65 Regular Course (Army) and 66 Regular Course (Navy/Airforce) have been advised to put the interest of the nation above everything else as they join the Armed Forces.

Director of Sports, Defence Headquarters, Air Vice Marshal Dayo Adeluoye, gave the advice at the Price Giving and Beating of the Retreat ceremony in honour of the graduating cadets which held in Kaduna on Tuesday.

He urged them to maintain the high standards and discipline which, he said, the NDA had inculcated in them.

While congratulating Mogadishu battalion which emerged champion, he urged the runnerup and succeeding battalions to strive to win greater loins miles in feature.

He also urged the graduating cadets to reciprocate the efforts of the staff of the academy by putting in their utmost best in the coming days as they prepared for their passing out parade.

He said: “These are the most critical and tempting days as the tendency is for you to assume that you have already made it and throw caution to the wind. I want to remind graduating cadets that even at these short hours, the road to your commissioning is still very narrow and the journey is still very far and I hope that with proper discipline and caution, you will earn a presidential commission.

“In discarding your duties after commissioning, always bear in mind the leadership roles and attributes which you have been taught in the academy. Bear in mind your constitutional role to subordination to civil authority as well as the protection of the territorial integrity of Nigeria, in this regard; it is nationally constitutional, professionally mandatory and occupationally obligatory that you place the interest of the nation above everything else in this noble profession.

“In discharging your duties, be fair and firm in dealing with your subordinates, the excellent leaders are not bossy, you must also be prudent in managing both human and material resources entrusted in you.”
