NSCDC declares ‘war’ on flooding, sets up operational centres

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) says it has declared ‘war’ on flooding in the country by setting up Emergency Operational Centres (EOC) across the country.

The Corps’ Deputy Commandant General in charge of crisis management, Dr. Emmanuel Adeoye, disclosed this while addressing a team of the NSCDC’s disaster management experts at the Corps’ headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday.

He said an EOC has been set up in each of the six geo-politial zones of the country and Abuja as part of efforts to mitigate the effects of flooding in the affected states.

“All civil defence formations are to activate their various contingency plans with immediate effect.

“All zonal commands, state commands, divisions and other formations of the corps are to ensure adequate and appropriate deployment henceforth,” he said.

While speaking with pressmen after the briefing of the personnel, Dr. Adeoye added that the Commandant General of the Corps, Abdullahi Gana Muhammadu, had directed that personnel of the NSCDC must be at the epic-centre of all emergency operational activities throughout the nation with immediate effect.

It will be recalled that the federal government recently declared flooding as a national emergency following the conference report on the rising level of rivers Niger and Benue.
