The APC zonal leader for the disabled, Mohammed Abba Isah, has rejected the allegation of government’s neglect of person living with disabilities in Yobe state.
The chairman of Joint national association of persons with disabilities in Yobe had accused the state government of no regard to their plight on schools and skills acquisition.
Reacting to the allegation on phone, Isah said the state government has transformed the lives of physically challenged persons in so many ways across the state.
He said the state government is giving the association monthly allocation of N500,000 for upkeep, as well as free drugs and education to all its members across Yobe.
“Our members are enjoying free education from primary school up-to University level. And just like children under the age of five, our members also receive free drugs in the state”, he said.
He noted that the present administration has sponsored 400 disabled persons to Skills Acquisition Centre in Kano to reduce street begging in the state.
“The beneficiaries include blind, deaf and dumb. They acquired different skills in carpentry, sewing, knitting and welding” he added.
He explained that the state government also promised to renovate the destroyed Special School in Goniri and all the Skills Acquisition Centers destroyed by the insurgents.
“I want to confirm to you that 700 job applications of people living with disabilities are before the SSG for employment very soon”, he added.
He said, in the area of sport, over 30 para-soccer physically challenged persons are on the government’s payroll of N33,000 salary each.
