Direct primaries will curb political dictatorship – Ogun Aspirant

An aspirant for Ogun State House of Assembly seat, Dr Ololade Kehinde, has slammed opponents of direct primaries as mode of electing All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates, saying the practice will put an end to “imperialism and political dictatorship.”

Kehinde, a lecturer at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, noted that a true democrat should not be afraid of direct primaries.

The APC chieftain, who is contesting for Abeokuta South Constituency 1, spoke with journalists on Tuesday in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital.

He rejected the controversial consensus arrangement adopted by Governor Ibikunle Amosun.

He said opponents of direct primaries are products of past impositions, surrounded by sycophants and have “unalloyed access to the state treasury.”

“Direct primaries is a one-stop solution to impunity, imperialism, rascality and political dictatorship.

“What is consensus? The initial meaning I have is the thwarting of the wish of the people by a few powerful people. A democrat will never be afraid of testing his popularity among the people he claims to lead,” Kehinde said.

He commended President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Chairman of APC, Adams Oshiomhole for “aligning with the fundamental principles of democracy” on direct primaries.

Speaking on his ambition, the aspirant said he is poised to serve his people in the legislature by pushing for legal frameworks that encourage youth empowerment and promotion of adequate healthcare delivery.
