The police in Gombe State on Tuesday said it has arrested 28 suspected members of the notorious Kalare thugs over alleged offenses of rape, theft and causing hurt.
Parading the suspects before newsmen, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Shina Tairu Olukolu, said the suspects were arrested by the police in collaboration with other security agencies.
He said three other suspects, Abubakar Mohammed, 19, Yusuf Munkaila Dayyabu, 19 all resident of Malam Kuri quarters and Abdullahi Bello, 19 of Bagadaza quarters are wanted over a case of criminal conspiracy, abduction and rape.
According to the police, the suspects were arrested the victim’s father, one Abdul’aziz Jimoh of Bolari quarters of Gombe metropolis, reported on August 20 that his daughter aged 16 and her friend aged 17 were abducted by the suspects.
The CP said the father laid a complaint that the suspects took them to a forest along Kumo road and sexually assaulted them.
Olukolu added that four of the suspects, Adamu Abubakar, 20, Suleiman Mohammed, 20, Yahaya Ibrahim, 19 and Abdullahi Idu, 20 all of Kumo town of Akko LGA allegedly attacked innocent passersby while sharing monetary gifts given to them by a politician.
He said the remaining 21 suspects were arrested over separate cases ranging from criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, causing hurts, theft, and house trespass among others.
Mr Olukolu added that all the arrested suspects have confessed to their crimes and will soon be charged to court to face the law.
