Suspected thugs on Monday attacked the convoy of Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara state in Gusau, the state capital.
Yari was on his way to an official assignment when thugs attacked him and his entourage around popular Lalan Roundabout.
There was a tense political climate in Gusau as seven governorship aspirants on the platform of ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) held a rally in order to show their disenchantment over governor Yari’s endorsement of the state commissioner of Finance, Alhaji Mukhtar Shehu Idris, as the consensus candidate of the party in the 2019 governorship elections.
Reacting to the incident, the Governor condemned the act and cautioned supporters of APC and all law-abiding citizens to desist from any form of violence being fuelled by unlawful associations and individuals.
Speaking through his Special Adviser on Public Englightment, Media and Communication, Alhaji Ibrahim Dosara, Governor Yari said any law-abiding citizen needs to respect the peaceful atmosphere concerning politics in Zamfara.
Yari said his government has done a lot to stop loyalists and all youths especially supporters of APC from engaging in any activity that would endanger the long political calmness being enjoyed amongst political associations and parties in the state.
He however directed all loyalists especially youth leaders to enlighten all grassroot supporters about the benefits of peace in relations to all political gatherings.
