9,822 stranded Nigerians repatriated in 18 months

No fewer than 9, 822 stranded Nigerians in 10 different countries have been repatriated in the last 18 months, it has been revealed.

Their repatriation was facilitated by the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the UN migration agency from April, 2017 to September 14, 2018.

Zonal Coordinator of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in the South-West, Alhaji Yakubu Suleiman disclosed this while receiving another batch of 153 returnees from Libya.

The NEMA boss also revealed that 8,657 of the returnees were from Libya while others were brought back from Niger, Mali, Morocco, Liberia, Burkina Faso, France, Ireland, Austria and Poland.

Analysis of the returnees so far, according to data from NEMA, showed that out of the total figure, 59% of the returnees are males and 41% are females.

Also, further analysis revealed that out of the figures, 57% are adult males, 37% adult females, minor males are three per cent and three per cent minor females.

The latest set of returnees comprised 56 females and 97 males who arrived through a Libyan Airline plane with registration no 5A-DMG and landed at Cargo Wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja Lagos around 1:05 am.
