ADC chairman challenges injunction against primaries

The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ralph Okey Nwosu has vowed to challenge a court injunction restraining the party from conducting its primaries.

An ADC chairmanship claimant in Adamawa State, Alfa Ephraim and five others had on September 11 approached an Adamawa State High Court for an interim injunction restraining the executive committee of the ADC from conducting the party’s primary.

But in a statement, Nwosu claimed that Ephraim has no locus standing to institute the action since he “was at no time elected as state chairman of the party in Adamawa State.”

He therefore advised members of the party and the general public to disregard the antics of Ephraim and “from recognizing him for political activities.”

The suit, which was filed by Ephraim’s counsel, L.D. Nzadon Esq, is seeking to prevent the primary for offices of State House of Assembly, National Assembly, and Governorship seats in Adamawa State scheduled to hold from 28/9/18 to 06/10/18.

Justice Abdulazeez Waziri had directed the plaintiffs/applicants to indemnify the defendants if “it turns out that the order ought not to have been made.”

The judge also ordered the service of the originating summons be served on the party at its head office in Nyanya, Abuja.

The suit was adjourned to September 18 for hearing.
