A heavy downpour on Tuesday evening has caused flooding which wreaked serious havoc in a community in Osun State and sacked some residents from their homes.
The residents of Ifedapo community, palace road in Ofatedo, Egbedore Local Government area were ejected from their homes as a result of the flood.
The flood was said to have rendered more than 100 residents homeless, killed livestock, washed farms away and destroyed property worth millions in the community.
Most of the residents have abandoned their homes while their properties were still inside their houses.
Daily Trust gathered that some courageous men saved several children from drowning. Some other people also struggled to retrieve their important documents, particularly certificate.
Mr. Adedayo Kolawole, one of the residents of the area whose house was affected, attributed the flooding to lack of drainage in the Aje market, an international market owned by the state government.
Kolawole urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the State Emergency Management Agency to come to their rescue.
According to him: “This area is prone to flooding because of lack of drainage around the Aje International market owned by the state government. We complained to the state government but nothing was done.
“The damage it caused in the community was so much. It’s one of the biggest flooding we have experienced in recent time. The flood affected mostly the people living along the Palace road, in Ofatedo here.”
Another victim, Mrs Amina Badejoko said “the flood displaced many families. People are making frantic effort to save some of their properties.”
