Commissioner dares Amosun, resigns to battle governor’s candidate

Ogun state commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru has resigned his appointment to pursue his governorship ambition, apparently contesting against Governor Ibikunle Amosun’s anointed candidate, Adekunle Akinlade.

Ashiru, an Ijebuman, is one of the aspirants jostling for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket.

He was adopted last year as Ijebu-Remo (Ogun East Senatorial District) consensus governorship candidate.

The longest serving commissioner in the ministry resigned following his resolution to contest the number one political office in the state, having obtained the APC nomination form which qualifies him as one of aspirants vying for governorship seat in the APC primaries billed for September 25.

Our correspondent recalls that the state APC had resolved to go for direct primaries in the event that consensus arrangement fails.

Ashiru had submitted his resignation letter to the office of the Secretary to the State Government on Monday.

He confirmed the resignation to newsmen in Abeokuta, just as he thanked the governor for allowing him serve in the capacity of commissioner for close to eight years.

“Yes, I have tendered my resignation letter this morning to pursue my governorship ambition. You will recall that my people from Ijebu and Remo picked me as a consensus governorship candidate since last year; they also bought me an APC nomination form recently to contest for the seat.

“So, I must hear the clarion call from the good people of Ijebu-Remo to further serve my fatherland in higher capacity, and as a true son of my father and law-abiding citizen, I must quit my present office to be able to fully partake in the primaries as directed by our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“I therefore expressed my appreciation to the governor and all the good people of Ogun state for allowing me to serve my fatherland meritoriously. I am looking forward to your usual support as I step forward for next move which is governorship seat,” Ashiru said.
