Why I left PDP for Kwankwaso — Shekarau

Former Governor of Kano state and  former Minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau has  officially announced his defection to All Progressive Congress (APC).
His official declaration on Saturday put an end to the series of conflicting reports on his defection plans over the past few weeks.
Addressing thousands of his supporters at his Mudubawa residence, Malam Shekarau stated that his defection became necessary after the failure of series of attempts to address the rift between the new comers into his former political party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the old members of the party by national leadership of the party.
“It was obvious that the national body of PDP has taken side, by violating the court order that said status quo should be maintained in the state party executive. The nation party leadership went ahead and dissolved the executives and also constituted a caretaker committee comprising virtually all Kwankwasiyya loyalists. This is injustice and we can’t take it. That was why we said we can’t be part of this injustice trend even though we have tried to see how we can make amends but to no avail,” said Shekarau.
He further stated that, after series of consultation with his key supporters and other stakeholders, the decision to rejoin APC, which he claimed to have been part of its formation was reached.
“We are defecting not on our own personal volition, but based on the majority’s desire. We will give all that it takes to ensure the success of APC in 2019,” he added.
