Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State who is seeking the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to contest a second term said he has the right of first refusal in the party ahead of the 2019 general elections.
The governor, who submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms on Wednesday at the PDP National Secretariat in Abuja, said he would defeat other governorship aspirants in the race.
Speaking with newsmen, the Special Adviser to the governor on Special Duties, Abraham Kwaghngu, who submitted the forms on behalf of the governor denied knowledge of any group of aspirants kicking against Ortom’s return and aspiration in the party.
“Our constitution as a party does not even have room for automatic ticket but the governor as a sitting governor has the right of first refusal as you know but we are ready to go into the contest with any other person that wants to go in,” he said.
Similarly, the Senator representing Imo East Senatorial District, Samuel Anyanwu obtained his nomination forms to contest the state governorship election in 2019.
