Presidential Committee on Flood Relief and Rehabilitation has constructed two Hostel blocks for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and emergency victims affected by flood in Nasarawa state.
The structures is a two storey building to house hundreds of victims of flood located at Shabu in Lafia.
Speaking during the handover at the weekend in Lafia, Chairman of the Presidential Committee, Aliko Dangote said the hostels were built to provides a place that will serve as evacuation center in the event of emergency as a result of flood disaster.
Dangote who was represented by John Agbo Owuiche said that the whole idea came into place following the 2012 flood disaster that spread across the country, where 24 states were affected including Nasarawa, saying, similar contracts were executed by different contractors to build and delivered to state governments.
He explained that the second phase of the project which includes landscaping, furnishings, connecting the buildings to national grid and boosting of water supply within the structure will commence as a special package to enhanced the wellbeing of its the victims.
He appealed to the host community to jealously guard the structure against vandalism.
Responding, Executive Secretary of Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency (NASEMA) Bar Zachary Alumaga, who took delivery of the buildings on behalf of the state government, appealed to the leadership of presidential committee to speedup the furnishings process of buildings to achieve the desired goals.
He noted that the state government is working to ensure that access road and other necessary facilities are provided to make the place lively.
