Minister of Health Prof Isaac Adewole has enjoined graduates of medical laboratory science from foreign institutions to continually improve their knowledge and improve the health sector.
He gave the advice yesterday during the induction ceremony organised by the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) in Abuja.
He said there was need to bring in creative interventions in order to improve health care delivery, reduce medical tourism and improve the health of the citizens.
“You are expected to bring progress and professional excellence to the health sector. I am optimistic that you will not only bring honour to yourself but your profession and your country,” he said.
Acting registrar of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) Tosan Erhabor said that in spite of the pedigree of the trainers and sophistication of training apparatus, the council owed the graduands the duty of ensuring they went through the process of adaptation and integration as part of the prerequisites for licensure.
He said the graduands are expected to bring into the profession elements of international best practices they have imbibed during the course of their training overseas, and key elements such as ideals of team work, adherence to due process, efficiency and dedication among others.
He warned them against misconduct saying that the council has zero tolerance to all forms of professional misconduct.
Chairman Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter, Ndubisi Ebitea enjoined the graduands to uphold integrity and abide by the ethics of the profession.
