Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has said he has no plan to defect to any other political party, insisting that he is not bothered about the wind of defections currently blowing in the nation’s politics.
Fielding questions from newsmen at the Maria Assumpta Cathedral Owerri, Imo State capital, when he attended the Odenigbo Lecture 2018, Governor Ikpeazu said it was not the desire of Abia State electorate to have him seek another political platform to pilot their affairs even beyond 2019.
He said: “I do not know what options are available. I am in PDP; I will remain in it. I think this is what my people want. I do not think that it is the desire of people of Abia State to find another alternative vehicle to drive them beyond 2019. My essence in governance is to serve my people and do their will. I think my people are comfortable with me.”
Asked to comment on the series of defections in the country, Ikpeazu said he was not in a position to state whether the development was good or bad for the nation’s democracy, but argued that “making up one’s mind and changing one’s mind has always been the characteristics of human beings”.
“When a human being is not comfortable where he is, he is bound to reposition himself. If the sun is too much and you are standing under the sun, it is up to you to change your position. But I think what we should emphasise as Nigerians is national service; the greater good of the greater majority of our people,” he said.
