Former Military Administrator of Akwa Ibom State, Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga (rtd), has said that Nigeria will return to true federalism under the Peoples Democratic Party.
Nkanga, who is also the Director General of Udom Emmanuel campaign organisation, said states in Nigeria were operating like branches of the Federal Government.
Speaking yesterday in Uyo with journalists during the pre-Udom Emmanuel declaration planning committee, Nkanga said the PDP is fighting for true democracy in the country. “Under PDP, Nigeria will go back to what it was meant to be. I know that some players may not appreciate the difference. What we are fighting for in this country is democracy. That democracy was the best of federalism which was agreed by our founding fathers.
“We are looking for opportunities for every federating unit to work as hard as possible, to develop as fast as it can at its own pace so that Nigeria will be totally developed,” he said.
Also speaking, Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Mr Onofiok Luke, said the governor was among leaders who have worked assiduously for the collective greatness of the state, noting that the people of the state trust in his capabilities and patriotism.
