Kano’s Health Trust Fund gets boost as PACFaH@Scale seeks collaboration

Five percent of Kano State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) will henceforth be donated to the State’s health Trust Fund, Commissioner for Health, Kabiru Ibrahim Getso has said.

The Commissioner revealed this during a one-day policy dialogue on Kano State government’s partnership and Civil Society’s alignment on state work plan in routine immunization, primary healthcare under one roof, family planning and childhood killer diseases organised by the Partnership for Advocacy in Child and Family Health at Scale (PACFaH@Scale) in collaboration with development Research and Projects Centre (dRPC).

“Kano state government is set to donate 5% of its internally generated revenue through the recently assented Kano state Health Trust Fund policy which will be financed through a 5% deduction every month from the state’s total Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and another 1% deducted monthly from statutory allocation of the 44 council areas of the state” he added.

According to the commissioner, under the health Trust Fund about N2.5 billion will be generated annually which will be injected into the state health sector management for effective health service delivery across the state.

In his remarks, the team leader Garba Audu stated that, the aim of the policy dialogue is to facilitate an open discussion between all stakeholders in the maternal and child health landscape, with a view of having more synergy and efficient policies including more pragmatic approach to their implementation.

He also said that it is anticipated at the end of the workshop, there will be a review and better understanding of the policies related to child and family health by all stakeholders and also to reach an agreement on areas for alignment and synergy by all partners regarding policies relevant to child and family health.
