CJN wants Rivers killings probed

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Walter Onnoghen has requested security and anti-corruption agencies to investigate allegations of buying of justice after killings in Rivers State.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Joe Igbokwe was quoted in the social media to have accused Governor Nyesom Wike of involvement in the killings and bribing of Supreme Court justices.

A statement by the Special Assistant to the CJN on Media, Awassam Bassey yesterday said the implication of Igbokwe’s assertion that, “Wike will not have the audacity and temerity to kill again and run to the Supreme Court to buy justice, showed that he has evidence to prove that Nyesom Wike is a killer, and secondly that upon such killings, the governor runs to the Supreme Court to buy justice.”

He however noted that no appeal had ever been filed at the Supreme Court wherein Governor Wike was accused of murder.

“The killing of any human being is an offence that is punishable by death and should never be taken lightly.

“The Hon. CJN continues to encourage the general public to use only lawful means in the pursuit of remedies for their grievances,” he said.
