The Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Terkimbi Ikyange, has been impeached following allegation of high handedness and other sundry offences.

Ikyange (APC) was immediately replaced by the member representing Kyan constituency in Vandeikya, Titus Uba, (APC) as the new Speaker of the Assembly.

Our correspondent reports that the adoption of a motion for vote of no-confidence passed on the Ikyange leadership as moved by Richard Ujege representing Konshisha constituency and seconded by his counterpart from Ado, Anthony Ogbu had set the pace for the drastic changes which took the centre stage at the House on Tuesday.

Others newly elected included, Egli Johnson Ahubi (PDP) as Deputy Speaker while Avine Agbom representing Makurdi North constituency emerged the majority leader shortly after he tendered his letter to defect from the APC to PDP just as the member representing Agatu constituency, Alhaji Sule Audu (PDP) became the deputy majority leader.

Also, Kester Kyenge (PDP) representing Logo constituency was elected Majority Whip.

These changes however followed the signatories of 22 members out of 30 on the motion for the vote of no confidence while twenty-one were present at the plenary session.

Meanwhile, the new Speaker and his deputy were immediately sworn-in by the clerk of the House, Dr. Torese Agena.

The new Speaker, Uba, thanked members for finding him worthy to serve in that capacity and promised exemplary leadership of the Assembly.

The House has adjourned sitting to August 15.
