Youths threaten polls boycott over killings

Piqued by the intractable killings across the country, the Arewa Youth Coalition for Peace (AYCP) in Kaduna State says it would mobilize youths to boycott next year’s elections if unchecked.

Addressing newsmen in Kaduna yesterday, the chairman of the group, Mukhtar Muhammad, said his group was committed to ensuring that youths boycott the polls or support a candidate that would address the killings. He maintained that the primary role of government at all level is to secure lives and property of citizens, but a government that cannot fulfill this fundamental obligation has no justification to hold on to power.
