Police in Niger State yesterday arrested a former chairman of Suleja LGA of the state, Alhaji Ahmed Kassim and two of his supporters over an alleged breach of peace in the area. Kassim, according to the Commissioner of Police, Dibal Yakadi, had attempted entering the council secretariat by force. It would be recalled that Kassim was earlier impeached by the legislative arm of the council over allegations bothering on abuse of office. His impeachment was later affirmed by the state House of Assembly after investigating the alleged offences leading to his sack. Since then, litigation over his ordeal had lingered at the State High Court which ruled in his favour, ordering his reinstatement.
But the incumbent chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Shuaibu Maje, appealed against the judgment at the Court of Appeal in Abuja. The attempt by Kassim to gain access to his former seat resulted in a fracas which recently grounded economic activities in the town.
