Sanitation Court sitting in Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State has convicted 40 offenders and remanded some offenders in last Saturday’s clean-up exercise in Afara prisons, Umuahia, for failing to pay their fines.

Earlier the Abia State Commissioner for Environment and Solid Minerals Development, Mr. Aham Uko , called on Abia residents to show positive attitude towards their environment by making them clean.
Uko , who spoke after monitoring the level of compliance during the exercise within Umuahia, advocated attitudinal change among residents and frowned on the practices of dumping refuse in/water channels, saying such actions show indiscipline by the residents.
Uko urged the people to always keep their environments clean and safe to discourage the outbreak of any disease, pointing out that human traffic in Umuahia and Aba had affected the environment.
Also Speaking, the Chairman House Committee on Environment and the member representing Umuahia North State constituency, Hon Kelechi Onuzurike wonder why Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) is not living up to her responsibility as there heaps of refuse littered around the State capital, he doubt if the agency involved is starved of funds
He assured that the House Committee on environment will look into the agency activities and operations and see how to partner with them to resolve their challenges if any. End
