President Muhammadu Buhari has said there is no basis to compare the three years of his administration to the People’s Democratic Party’s 16-year rule.

He spoke at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday at the Democracy Dinner/Gala Night as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 19 years of uninterrupted democratic rule and President Buhari’s third year in office.

Buhari, represented by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, said for the PDP to be comparing its 16-year rule with his government indicated that the latter had done very well within three years.

He noted that the event was organised to thank God for taking the country so far.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, asked Nigerians to expect good things in the remaining one year of the present administration.

He said the democracy lecture delivered by a former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Attahiru Jega, on Monday, would be discussed for a long time to come.

He said: “The truth Prof. Jega spoke at the lecture will be discussed for a long time. He spoke to all divide, executive, judiciary and legislature. I believe it is high time we told ourselves the truth if we must experience the desired change.”

The highlights of the event were cultural troupe presentations, special documentary on dividends of democracy 2015-2018 and reception of Team Nigeria that went to the 21st Commonwealth Games, Gold Coast 2018, Australia.

The event was attended by the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, John Odigie-Oyegun; a former Chief of General Staff, Gen. Ladipo Diya (rtd); Commodore Ebitu Ukiwe (rtd); and a former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Alfa Belgore.

Daily Trust reports that no former head of state or president was in attendance.
