The former Governor of Kebbi state, Alhaji Sa’idu Nasamu Dakingari, his deputy, Alhaji Ibrahim Aliyu and 12 other top members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kebbi state have defected to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).
The decampees had a brief meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja at the instance of the incumbent Governor of the state, Senator Abubakar Bagudu earlier on Friday where they notified the President of their defection.
Addressing the crowd, Governor Bagudu described PDP in the state as a ghost party.
"PDP is a dead party in Kebbi state because it has lost its soul. So it is a ghost party," the Governor added.
Bagudu said President Buhari had acknowledged their defection and was happy with our success, "urging us to continue with the good work."
Also speaking, the Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN) commended Governor Bagudu for achieving a lot in the area of agriculture and employment.
According to Malami, the defection of Dakingari and his loyalists to APC was timely.
In his short remark, the former deputy Governor, Ibrahim Aliyu said they resolved to dumped their former party in order to move Kebbi state forward.
"This nation needs peace, this state needs peace and development; we came to APC to unite our people under one fold and that fold is APC," he said.
Others decampees include, the former SSG, Alhaji Musa Dan Illela, the former ALGON chairman, Alhaji Sani Kalgo, among others.
When contacted, the spokesman of PDP in the state, Ibrahim Umar Ummai said the executive committee of the party would meet before making their stand on the defection public.
