NDLEA seeks govt’s logistics support to destroy illicit drugs

The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has appealed to the state government to help with logistics to publicly destroy over 130,000 kilograms of forfeited cannabis sativa.

Speaking with journalists on the security challenges of drug trafficking in the state, the Commander, Mr Buba Wakawa, said due to the constraints of logistics, the command was yet to execute the federal high court order which approved the destruction of the seized drugs.

He said Edo was one of the highest cannabis producing states in the country, and that government’s support was needed to suppress the negative consequences of drug trafficking.

“The aerial survey of cannabis farms conducted in the state with the support of the Nigerian Air Force and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) has revealed a massive cannabis plantation in the state,” he said.
