How DSS allegedly Killed 50-yr old man in Gayawa

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) attached to Kano state command have  allegedly shot dead a 50-yr old man, Mohammad Suleiman in Gayawa town of Ungogo local government area.

A father of 20, late Suleiman, popularly known as Dan Hadejia Mai Kaji, was shot in front of his residence around 2:40am on Monday December 25, 2017 when the DSS operatives drove into their neighborhood for a special raid.

Our reporter gathered that late Sulaiman and his children were popular hawkers of roasted chicken around Singer and Sabon-Gari markets in the state metropolis for the past 15 years.

His daughter, Malama Hauwa Muhammad, who spoke on behalf of the family, told Kano Chronicle that her father died at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), where he was taken by his assailants.

She explained that, “What happened was that the humming of the DSS’s vehicle caused some stirs in my father’s flock of livestock and on hearing the unusual struggle of the animals, my late father decided to come out to see what was happening to the animals and immediately he stepped out from his house, the DSS operatives shot him.

“When they shot him he quickly called out on two of my younger brothers and told them that he was shot. Meanwhile, when the assailants were about to go, my mother came out and saw her husband in pool of his own blood, she quarreled ‘you have killed him and are you are going to leave him here?’ It was then they admitted that it was a mistaken identity for a Boko Haram suspect.

“They took his unconscious body along with my two younger brothers Shamsu and Abubakar whom they detained in their headquarters at Giginyu while my father was taken to AKTH where he later died,” she narrated.

“My father was not terrorist and so also my brothers. They have never been accused of any crime related to terrorism. I wonder why the DSS operatives killed my father and also detained my brother without giving any cogent reason. Although they have admitted that it was mistaken identity, then why are they still detaining one of my brothers? What have we done to them that warrant this injustice?

“I am calling on the authorities concerned to fish out the operatives involved in the operation, punish them accordingly and order for the immediate release of the dead body of my father so as to be given a befitting burial,” Malama Hauwa said.

Kano Chronicle gathered that, one of the sons of the deceased, Abubakar is still in detention at the DSS’s headquarters over allegation of having link with dreaded Boko Haram group.

Late Suleiman had left behind three wives and twenty children and up to the time of filing in this report, the corpse of the deceased was not released to the family for burial.
