APC dismisses alleged plot to arrest 50 PDP members

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed the allegation raised by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that the ruling party planned to incarcerate 50 of its key members ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The APC National Publicity Secretary, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, said the ruling party which could not arrest anybody was just concerned with the art of winning elections.

Abdullahi, who fielded questions from journalists on Thursday, said the invitation extended to some former governors by the anti-graft agency should not be politicized.

He said, “I don’t know who is making that allegation and it would have been better that the person rolls out the names in the list of persons to arrest.

“It is a strategy you pre-empt. A couple of former governors are invited by the EFCC for questioning on their financial conduct during their tenure in office. So, one way to pre-empt that is to claim that there is a threat to muzzle the opposition.

“I have said that as political parties, we don’t arrest. If anybody has issues with people who have the power to arrest, the person should go and deal with it instead of politicizing it. We are concerned with the art of winning elections as a party not arresting anybody.

“But if you have issues with law enforcers, they should go and answer the questions. There is nothing political at all in it.”

The PDP had, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said that President Muhammadu Buhari was not fighting corruption but using its members as scapegoats.
