We use our salary to sensitise voters— NOA boss

Barely 10 days to the governorship election in Anambra State, the National Orientation Agency (NOA), is severely constrained by lack of funds which is seriously hampering voter sensitisation in the state.

The state Director of the agency, Dr. Mike Ozoemena, who raised the concern while speaking with newsmen on the voter sensitisation campaign preparatory for the exercise, identified funds as major constraints to the sensitisation campaign.

He said the agency had not been getting funds to run its activities thereby compelling its officials to use their salary to carry out voter education and other sensitisation exercises for the election.

“The situation has been so bad that the staff have been forced to use their salaries to carry out the sensitisation campaign because the job must be done,” he said.

The director, however, said he had amid the prevailing challenge toured all the 21 local government areas in the state to enlighten people on the need to turnout for the election.

He further noted that voter apathy had characterised many elections in the state, but expressed optimism that the coming election would be different.
