A Malaysian who allegedly stole goods and household properties worth N72 million, was yesterday arraigned before an Igbosere magistrate’s court, Lagos.
Moritz Ani, 37, whose residential address was not given, is facing a five count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining, fraud, stealing and breach of peace, filed against him by the police.
Prosecuting police officer, Inspector Francis Igbinosa, informed the court that Ani and others still on the run conspired to commit the alleged offences sometime between 2004 and 2008.
It was alleged that the defendant obtained goods under false pretence of selling same and remitting the proceeds to the complainant which he failed to do.
The prosecutor also alleged that the defendant, with intent to defraud, obtained 55,000 pieces of female clothes at the rate of N400, each, valued at N22 million, from one Hilary Ugo, who is a friend of his.
He also alleged that Ani, in 2008, stole household properties, which are gold jewelries, car documents, land documents, international passport, bank cheque booklets and the sum of 30,000 US dollars, all belonging to Ugo.
However the defendant denied the allegations.
